“The Haruspex” animations, 2016

note: These videos accompany the work “the haruspex”. The videos are made using a process of stop-motion animation: first sculptures of solid composite objects are made, composed of found objects, resin, and fragments of plastic detritus salvaged from the ocean and beaches of the north atlantic coast. then the surface of these objects is planed away, micron layer by micron layer, incrementally removed, and photographed between each layer. These photographs are then stitched together into a continuous video, seen below. As part of the larger “haruspex project”, I then “read” these video objects as a haruspex would read the liver and kidneys of a bird to divine the future.
